Professional Support

Children and Family Wellbeing Service

Leicestershire County Council Children's and Family Wellbeing service - provides early help services to a child, young person or family, where they are experiencing difficulties that cannot be supported by universal services, such as schools or GPs alone. We all know that parenting is a tough job at the best of times! We also know that when children get off to a good start they are well equipped to cope with the ups and downs of life as they grow up. Healthy Weight During Pregnancy

Leicestershire Weight Management offer a Weight Management in Pregnancy service, who can help you to focus on the quality of your food during pregnancy. To be referred onto this service, speak to your midwife. you can also find out more information here.

If you are overweight, you may have problems getting pregnant and fertility treatment is less likely to work. Being overweight (having a BMI over 25) or obese (having a BMI over 30) also raises the risk of some pregnancy problems, such as high blood pressure, deep vein thrombosis, miscarriage and gestational diabetes.

Before you get pregnant you can use the BMI healthy weight calculator to find out your BMI. But this may not be accurate once you're pregnant, so consult your midwife or doctor.

Having a healthy diet and doing moderate exercise are advised in pregnancy, and it's important not to gain too much weight. You can keep to a healthy weight by having a balanced diet and doing regular exercise.

Practical Antenatal Guidance

The Solihull Approach antenatal online course gives parents practical information about pregnancy and birth whilst at the same time introducing them to their baby. It explains how and why those around this baby are so important, whether they are the mother, father, partner, grandparent or birth partner. It integrates the traditional information given on an antenatal course with a new approach to starting their relationship with this baby before the baby even makes an appearance.

The course was developed by Registered Midwives working with health professionals in the Solihull Approach team. Also available is the postnatal online course which gives parents information about their baby's brain development and their baby's physical and emotional development. It shows how important their relationship with their baby is for the baby's development. For more information click here
